Project Overview
This project was centered around creating an immersive in-store digital experience for an outdoor lifestyle brand. The goal was to blend interactivity and storytelling to elevate the customer journey in a retail setting. The project included the design and development of a rotating backpack experience app that allowed users to engage with backpack products in a dynamic, 360° view. This app highlighted product features, materials, and design elements in an intuitive way. In addition, a dual touchscreen catalogue app was created, enabling customers to explore the brand’s full range of products through synchronized displays—one focused on product categories and the other on detailed specs and comparisons. To complete the experience, three lifestyle videos were produced to showcase the brand's ethos, products in real-life adventures, and the emotional connection to the outdoors. Together, these elements formed a cohesive digital experience tailored for a store-like environment.
Objectives
The primary objective of the project was to enhance the in-store experience through immersive and interactive digital touchpoints that reflect the spirit of the outdoor brand. This included encouraging customer engagement with products in a more meaningful way, providing detailed product information in an accessible format, and creating an emotional connection through video storytelling. The project also aimed to bridge the gap between physical products and digital interfaces, offering a seamless, informative, and memorable retail experience. Ultimately, the goal was to create an environment that not only informs but also inspires exploration and adventure.
Challenges
One of the key challenges was designing an interface that remained intuitive and user-friendly despite incorporating advanced interactive features like 360° rotation and dual-screen coordination. Balancing technical performance with visual richness was another hurdle, especially in ensuring the apps functioned smoothly in a retail setting with varying lighting and noise conditions. Coordinating the production of lifestyle videos to align with the brand’s tone and visual identity also required careful planning and creative direction. Additionally, integrating all these components into a unified, store-like experience demanded strong consistency in design language, user flow, and branding across platforms.
